Wedding
Cakes
One
of the most awaited and a delicious part of any wedding is definitely
the cake cutting ceremony. The wedding cake is an important part
of the reception and symbolizes so much more than just a tasty
dessert.
Although you may think it is just a cake – your wedding
cake will, in fact, be the centre of attraction at your wedding
reception. The eyes of all your guests will deifinitely be on
the layers of cream, frosting and sugar with which you will crown
the evening.
Fresh
Cream Wedding Cake
With contemporary life style in India, every wedding today has
a cake, whether or not it is a traditional Indian wedding, irrespective
of any caste.
These
cakes are made with fresh cream. The cake is made and decorated
with fresh cream flowers and all the minutest of filigree work
done with fresh cream. These cakes are catching up with the Indians,
as it’s more suitable to their palette.
What
one needs to take into consideration while ordering a cake for
a wedding is, the kind of cuisine that is decided for the day,
the type of guests expected , and whether you are willing to experiment
with something different.
“A
fruit cake is ideal as it is neutral. You can’t really go
wrong with it. Everyone will relish it, especially, if you have
an older crowd, but if there are youngsters, chocolate is a good
option.” suggests Ekta Aggarwal who is into the business
of baking cakes.
“CAKE
IS AN INTERGRAL PART OF A WEDDING today. It is a reflection of
your personality. Therefore, try not to compromise while ordering
a cake and ensure that you go in for the best so that it’s
an overall fantastic experience for your guests’ right from
the food to the desserts.” advocates Ekta Aggarwal.
‘Cake’
the shape of your relationship.
Along
with the flavor of the cake, the shape of your cake will also
play a big role in creating just the right magic on your big day.
There
are a wide variety of shapes from which you could choose. Those
who wish to have a more traditional cake will probably go with
a round, tiered cake while more modern couples would be better
off with a square, hexagonal or octagonal cake.
Another
very appealing trend is for the bride and grooms to serve mini-cakes.
These delectable desserts are small, intricately detailed, individual-sized
cakes that are served to each guest. The beauty of mini-cakes
is that each cake can be a different flavor thereby pleasing every
palette.
You
can also use your courtship and relationship for inspiration when
it comes to choosing a shape for your cake. For instance if you
had a long-distance relationship then maybe your cake can be a
big telephone; or if you both love to dance, then your cake can
be a beautiful ballroom. Your imagination is the limit of what
your wedding cake can be – after all it is your special
day, you might as well have a cake that shows everyone just how
special it is!
The
flavours most wanted
From plain vanilla to chocolate to coconut, almond and even pineapple
– the flavour you choose for your wedding cake can be as
unique as your relationship. Many people end up choosing a white
or Angel cake with vanilla icing as it is not that sweet.
An
important consideration while choosing your wedding cake is the
icing. Since the cake will have to sit in the hall for several
hours before it is cut, make sure that the icing will retain its
flavour. There is nothing worse than going through all the trouble
of ordering a fabulous cake only to have the icing lose its flavour
before it is ready to be eaten. A good way to ensure that your
cake will stand the test of time is to have a mini replica of
your cake made and to let it sit for a while to see how it then
looks and tastes.
Traditional
Catholic Wedding Cakes
A
Weeding Cake is a must for every Catholic wedding, which consists
of a minimum 2 tiered cake which could be up to 10 tiers or even
more. The fruit cake is an ideal wedding cake as it can be kept
for a long time. Today, all that has changed.
A
tradition that Catholics follow, is that , one tier of the cake
is kept away packed and frozen for a year and is cut on the first
wedding anniversary.
These
cakes are generally made of dry fruits soaked in liqueur/rum for
over six months. The longer the fermentation process, the better
the cake.
Once
the cake is baked, it is first coated with apricot jam and covered
with a layer of marzipan and fondant. Then it’s decorated
with sugar craft flowers made with gum paste and filigree work
done with royal icing.
With
these kinds of cakes one can make all kinds of decorations like
horse chariots, staircases, churches etc.
