Karishma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapoor

The love Story

They grew up together. They played and studied together as kids. He carried on with his business and she became a showbiz superstar. Then destiny played its role. Love was arranged into marriage.

After playing roles of a blushing bride in a number of movies, Karisma Kapoor decided to marry her childhood friend and industrialist Sunjay Kapoor. They tied the knot on September 29 2003

Celebrity Wedding Functions Unlike the typical show and glamour that celebrities form a part of , in this wedding, apart from the mehendi ceremony and the marriage, no other functions were announced. For the mehendi party, Karisma and Kareena wore lehengas while mother Babita wore a salwar-kameez.

The Wedding Invitation
The wedding invitation was in a traditional form. It was a letter from the bride's parents, Randhir and Babita, and grandmother Krishna Raj Kapoor. The invite was on a cream based paper and fitted with rudraksha beads.

Wedding Attire
The blue-eyed actress was dressed in a Manish Malhotra creation on her wedding day. Designer and close friend Manish Malhotra also designed Karisma's trousseau.

Karisma Kapoor was attired in gold, silver, pastels, silk, chiffons, diamonds, sequins and intricate tapestries for her wedding. A report in a local newspaper revealed that Malhotra has also designed a diamond necklace for the actress encrusted with coloured stones.The bridal jewellery set for the marriage ceremony was entirely made up of diamonds. Karisma wore gold sandals encrusted with diamonds.

Sunjay Kapur's outfit was designed by Rohit Bal. He was dressed in cream sherwani with a pagdi on his head

The Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony was scheduled for 1130 IST and was conducted according to Sikh rites.

The Wedding Banquet
In the tradition of the Kapoor khandaan, the wedding took place in the late Raj Kapoor's home, R K Cottage.All marriage ceremonies were held at the Kapoor cottage at Deonar in northeast Mumbai, but lavish receptions were held at the RK Studios.
The RK cottage was decorated with mirrors and mogras. The guests lunch was in the spacious lawns of the house.

The Wedding Menu
The lunch included a variety of cuisines like Oriental, Thai, Chinese, Italian, French and Continental. It also included Indian food, like Punjabi, Gujarati and Rajasthani cuisines.

The wedding ceremony started at 11.30 am. Guests were with served refreshments like Khus Sharbat, Lime Refreshers, Thandai and Fresh Coconut Water and vegetarian snacks like Assorted Vegetarian Canapés, Vol-au-Vents and Shitake Mushroom Frittata.

After the ceremony, at around 12.30 pm, mocktails like Pina Colada, Fruit Punch, different flavoured Iced Teas and vegetarian and non-vegetarian snacks were offered. Some of these snacks include Cheese Fondue, Pudina Paneer Tikka, Corn Kachoris, Tandoori Stuffed Mushroom, Sesame Prawns with Schezuan Dip, Murg Kali Mirch Tikka and Mutton Sheekh Kabab Lucknowi.

The buffet lunch included salads like American Corn and Pasta Salad, Cottage Cheese Romano, Saxon Salad, Thai Raw Papaya Salad, Prawn Cocktail, Seafood Mayonnaise and Insalatta di Marie and cold cuts like Glazed Ham, Smoked Turkey and Italian Farmers Salami.
The lunch also included Stuffed Chilla, Dry Fruit Bhel, Rajasthani Panch Mela, Gujarati Daal, Dum Handi Vegetarian Biryani, Dal-e-Khaas, Nalli Nihari, Sikandari Raan, Murg Shiraz, Dum Gosht Biryani and much more.

The desserts were Philadelphia Cheesecake, Malpua, Badam Halwa, Sitafal Angoori Rabri, a Crepes Counter, fresh fruits and Blueberry Cheesecake.

Approximately 60 chefs were required for the wedding preparations, which started the previous night itself.

The Guests
Karisma had a 'small' wedding, with around 500-700 guests.

Among the guests who drove in earlier during the day were her uncle Rishi Kapoor and great uncle Shashi Kapoor.

Designer and close friend Manish Malhotra, who has designed Karisma's trousseau, was also present.

The other guests present were Producer Bharat Shah, Cricketer Azharuddin and his wife, former actress Sangeeta Bijlani, Govinda. Also present were a casually-dressed Jackie Shroff and Ritesh Deshmukh.

David Dhawan, who directed Karisma in many of her films like Raja Babu, Hero No 1, Coolie No 1, Biwi No 1 and Haseena Maan Jayegi, to name a few, was there to give blessings to the couple.

Amrish Puri., Sanjay Dutt, Simi Garewal, Boney and Sridevi Kapoor, Akshay and Twinkle Khanna were there. Also present was Mohnish Behl

Brothers Rahul and Akshaye Khanna too were a part of the guests. Their father, Minister of State for Tourism actor Vinod Khanna, came along with his wife, Kavita.

Smita Thackeray, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Chaggan Bhujbal was amongst the VIP guests
